Is red wine a better provider of resveratrol than grape juice?
Is red wine a better provider of resveratrol than grape juice?
Since resveratrol can be found in the skin and seeds of grapes, it seems reasonable to think that grape juice, too, can provide you with certain amounts of this substance. But is this really the case? And if it is, is a glass of grape juice a day equally beneficial as a glass of red wine? This is what many have started wondering.
It is now indisputable that resveratrol can make a difference when it comes to preventing cardiovascular diseases. It has been proved that red wine, if consumed in moderation, relaxes your blood vessels and increases the levels of the so called good cholesterol and reduces the levels of bad cholesterol, which means that the chances of getting blood clots are slim.
The reason why bad cholesterol is actually called bad is because it sticks to coronary arteries thus causing damage to your health. It is extremely important to deal with bad cholesterol and anything that can help you do it should be welcomed. There is no doubt that red wine, due to resveratrol, is of great help, but is grape juice really helpful?
Many scientists have no doubts that this is the case because they have reasons to believe that grape juice can be just as efficient in improving your health as red wine. What is known so far is that a glass of juice contains smaller amounts of resveratrol than a glass of wine, however, the difference is not that significant, especially if you consider that drinking a lot of juice will not trigger any side effects, while drinking a lot of alcohol can produce certain undesirable effects.
It is plausible that grape juice is as beneficial as red wine, but more studies should be carried out to prove this. Fortunately, there is one study that sounds promising. Namely, out of 15 people with coronary disease who drank grape juice for two weeks, the tests results of all of them showed that
their levels of bad cholesterol decreased and that their blood flow improved, which is amazing and proves that grape juice is a rich source of resveratrol.
However, not all types of grape juice contain the same amount of this extremely powerful substance. There is one type of grapes in particular that is said to be the richest source of resveratrol. The type in question includes the grapes that contain resveratrol in their skin, seeds and pulp, which is extremely rare.
